Schmitt honors NYS football champs in Albany

Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt (R,C,I-New Windsor) hosted the Cornwall High School varsity football team in Albany this week to be recognized for winning the State Football Section 9 Class A Championship for the second year in a row. The Cornwall Green Dragons set the record as the first Section 9 school to capture back-to-back state titles with a 30-27 victory on in the Carrier Dome with an overall record of 12-0.

Assemblyman Schmitt hosted the entire football team, coaches, and families in Albany to tour the Capitol and to be introduced on the floor in the Assembly Chamber during legislative session.

Among the group was Head Coach Ryan Baldock, Offensive Coordinator Eric Holzapple, Coaches Jack Cassel, Edward Sacer, Mike Gennaro and Cornwall High School Athletic Director Michael Kroemer.
Schmitt was proud to recognize a senior on the team, Amin Woods, who will finish his high school career with 4,002 total rushing yards and has been named the State Championship Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row.

During the team’s special time in Albany, Assemblyman Schmitt presented the entire team and coaches with an official NYS Assembly Proclamation commencing their victory as back-to-back Class A football champions.
