Walden Trustee Becky Pearson has announced her candidacy for mayor in the village’s 2025 election, seeking to return to the role she previously held from 2005 to 2009.
Pearson, a lifelong Walden resident, brings decades of experience in both professional and civic roles. A graduate of SUNY Orange with a degree as a physical therapy assistant, she spent her early career in private practice before transitioning to Millspaugh Furniture, where she has worked for 39 years. Pearson later entered local government, serving as mayor for four years. During her tenure, she oversaw the completion of the Rail Trail project in collaboration with Montgomery and Shawangunk, helped establish playgrounds in Bradley Park and Wooster Grove, and worked with the Walden Rotary to develop the Wooster Grove Bandstand. She also served on the Walden Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) for more than a decade and returned to village leadership as a trustee in 2022.
Beyond her government work, Pearson is an active member of the Walden Historical Society and the Walden Community Council.
“The manager form of government can be confusing for many,” Pearson said during her trustee campaign last year. “As a former mayor and ZBA chairperson, I’ve attended numerous programs and educational sessions to better understand village governance. I dedicate hours to research and compare local laws with those of other communities. I’m not afraid to address challenging issues and always prepare thoroughly for meetings. I speak with passion and honesty on matters affecting our village.”
Currently circulating petitions to secure a place on the ballot, Pearson aims to continue promoting fiscal responsibility and transparency if elected mayor. She emphasized her commitment to serving residents and advancing the village’s progress.
