An alleged drunk driver has apparently taken the life of an ambulance service worker.

Ambulnz EMT Lisa Sillins of Newburgh died Wednesday, December 21 succumbing to injuries after being struck by an alleged drunk driver on Robinson Avenue in the City of Newburgh. She was 58.

The incident took place on the evening of December 16 just after 6 p.m. where Sillins was reported to have concluded her regular shift. Sillins was reportedly crossing Robinson Avenue at the time of the incident, from the Ambulnz office to the parking lot.

Crossing the street, Sillins was struck by a vehicle reported to have been driven by Pablo Colector of White Plains. Colector was arrested for driving while ability impaired due to a combined use of drugs and alcohol, a vehicular assault 2nd charge and driving while intoxicated. Sillins was transported to the hospital and died five days later as a result of her injuries. Colector was reported to have been released by authorities and was given an appearance ticket. According to Ryan Greenbaum, Senior Assistant District Attorney for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Colector is scheduled to be arraigned in City of Newburgh Court on January 3. No other additional case information was available.

“The Ambulnz family is deeply saddened today by the death of our friend and colleague, Lisa Sillins, who passed away today [December 21] after a traffic accident on Friday,” the ambulance service noted on its Instagram page. “Lisa was a dedicated, caring paramedic and a beloved member of the Ambulnz team. She was a shining light for her teammates, patients, and the community she faithfully served. She made a positive impact on all those around her. Lisa worked in the local EMS industry for more than 20 years. She is a core member of the Ambulnz family and one of the original team members of our Upstate New York operation. Her friends and family will never forget her joyful attitude, sense of humor and fun. Above all, she was devoted to her work in EMS and to those she worked with. Lisa will be greatly missed by her coworkers, friends, family and all of her EMS family. Our hearts are with her family and loved ones, including her mother, brothers, sister and extended family.”

A wake for Sillins will be held Thursday, December 29 at the Traver and McCurry Funeral Home in Catskill, NY. Her funeral will be held at Grace Bible Fellowship Church at 9:30 a.m. in Rhinebeck and she is to be buried in Flushing, Queens.

A company spokesperson for Ambulnz released the following statement via email: “The Ambulnz family is deeply saddened by the death of our valued team member Lisa Sillins, who passed away after a traffic accident on Friday, Dec. 16. While off-duty, Lisa was struck by an alleged drunk driver while crossing the street. Lisa was a dedicated, caring paramedic and a beloved member of the Ambulnz team. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, coworkers and all of her EMS family. Please direct any questions regarding the criminal investigation to the City of Newburgh Police Department.”

The City of Newburgh Police did not respond to requests for information regarding the accident or potential criminal investigation. Michael Neppl, Chief of Staff for the City of Newburgh said it was an on-going investigation, and that no additional information would be released at this time.
