Newburgh to transition water source to Catskill Aqueduct

City to switch from Brown's Pond on Dec. 13

Posted

The City of Newburgh will be transitioning its source of drinking water from Brown's Pond to the Catskill Aqueduct on the morning of Monday December 13.

The process will take approximately four to five days for the existing drinking water in the City's water mains and water storage tanks to be consumed and fully replaced with filtered water from the Catskill Aqueduct. The City will remain on the Catskill Aqueduct as a source of drinking water until the next planned shutdown in 2022.

City residents can expect a seamless transition to this source of water with no effect on water quality. The City of Newburgh will issue public notification when the 2022 Catskill Aqueduct shut downs occur and the City of Newburgh switches back to Brown's Pond.

Please contact the City of Newburgh Water Department at (845) 565-3356 with any questions or concerns.
