Newburgh teen critical after shooting

On January 7, at approximately 12:05 a.m, the City of Newburgh Police Department received a ShotSpotter notification for the area of Overlook Place and South Lander Street. ShotSpotter was indicating 19 rounds had been fired.
Officers arriving on scene located 21 shell casings on the street, several vehicles that had been struck by gunfire and were notified that two victims had been transported to a local hospital by private vehicle. One victim is a 17 year-old-male who is a Newburgh resident was struck at least once in the face and once in the torso. He was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he was admitted to the ICU in critical condition. The second victim is an 18 year-old male who is also a Newburgh City resident, was struck once in the buttocks. He was treated at Montefiore St. Lukes Hospital and discharged.
The City of Newburgh police are investigating this incident along with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Police are looking for any witnesses who may been in the area at the time of this incident. Anyone with any information is asked to call the City of Newburgh Police Department at 845-569-7509. Callers can remain anonymous.
