Newburgh shootings spoil holiday weekend

The new year began the way the old year ended in the City of Newburgh, with shootings both on New Years’s Eve and on New year’s Day.

On December 31, at approximately 11:47 pm the City of Newburgh Police Department received a call for a shooting in the area of 124 Renwick Street.

Officers responded and located evidence of a shooting in front of 124 Renwick Street. A victim was later located at a local hospital and had been transported by private vehicle.

The victim is a 23 year-old City of Newburgh resident. He was shot once in the back and is expected to survive.

On January 1 at approximately 9:41 pm, police received a ShotSpotter notification for the area of 45 South Lander Street. ShotSpotter was indicating 7 rounds had been fired.

Officers arriving on scene located a vehicle that had been struck by gun fire several times and were notified that a victim had been transported to a local hospital by private vehicle.

The victim a 28 year-old-male and Newburgh resident was struck at least once in his right arm and is expected to survive.

The City of Newburgh police are investigating these incidents along with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Anyone with any information is asked to call the City of Newburgh Police Department at 845-569-7509. Callers can remain anonymous.
