Newburgh man charged with weapons possession

What city police saw as suspicious activity in Washington Heights led to an arrest Sunday morning.

On February 2, officers were patrolling in the heights and noticed a group of males standing on the corner of S. Lander/Overlook Place. One of the males began walking away while holding his waistband and as officers attempted to speak with him he fled on foot. He was observed by Officers throwing an item, believed to be a handgun over a fence.

The male was apprehended and identified as Savion L. Knight 18. from Newburgh.

Recovered with the help of Police Officer Bret Layne and his Explosive Detection K9 Dutch was a loaded 22 Caliber Revolver.

Knight was charged with CPW 2nd a felony and Resisting Arrest, a misdemeanor. Savion Knight is also currently on NYS Parole for Robbery 3rd Degree and was subsequently held on a Violation of Parole Warrant.
