New Windsor to look at town ethics code

The Town of New Windsor’s Ethics Board will look to approve a new Ethics Board Disclosure Form on Wednesday, January 5 at the Town Board meeting.
Town Attorney David Zagon noted to the town board that the disclosure form had little changes from previous years.

However, Zagon noted in the meeting that the disclosure form, without his counsel, included the requirement of spouses of those who received the form to provide information as well. He did not see this form until it was ready for approval.

“They seemingly wanted spouses of those actual town officials who do have to fill out this disclosure form to fill this out as well,” Zagon said.

Zagon removed this option of spousal included information from the form. According to Zagon, only those designated officials and individuals within the town code will need to fill out the form.

Those individuals who receive this disclosure form will also need to provide other employer information other than the town, according to Zagon.

Town Supervisor George Meyers told the board that the form will be updated and worked on by Zagon prior to the Wednesday meeting. It will then be sent out to the board members for review. No comments were made by the board members.

According to Meyers, the Ethics Code will not be worked and voted on till February. Meyers will also look to change the code to not have a town employee on the ethics board.
