Milton flower farm returns for second year

If you’re looking for a new summer activity that the whole family can enjoy, Hudson Wildflower Co. in Milton has you covered. A “pick-your-own” style farm, visitors can walk through what seems like endless rows of wildflowers, and pick their fix; all while enjoying the beauty of the farm and soaking up the sun.

Kicking off in 2020, Hudson Wildflower Co. was started in the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic. Owner Krista Weed had a vision for a pick-your-own flower farm long before the pandemic, but the uncertainty and boredom of quarantine lit a fire, thus igniting her passion for this project.

“My grandfather grew corn on this property for a while, and when he stopped I mentioned the flower farm idea. He helped plant the whole property with sunflowers and different wildflowers. The early days of the pandemic were so hard on many, I wanted to create a place where people could come enjoy nature, be outside, and just forget about the world for a while,” said Krista Weed.

Hudson Wildflower Co. recently opened for their second year of operation on Friday, July 8. Upon arrival, it’s hard to not immediately be captivated by the vastness of the flower fields. Staff will provide scissors, the picking container of your choice, and advice on how to pick and care for your individual arrangement.

“It’s amazing to see how happy people are just to see flowers, myself included,” says Krista Weed. “They can brighten up anyone’s mood, and it’s evident in the response of the community. Everyone who comes leaves with the biggest smile on their face!”

But the pick-your-own portion isn’t the only thing this floral farm has to offer. Patrons can order custom bouquets and centerpieces for their next party or special event. Special workshops and events also are held at Hudson Wildflower Co. Floral design workshops are available to the public, and you have the opportunity to create a one of a kind floral arrangement with advice from a flower farmer who knows the ropes.

New this season, Hudson Wildflower Co. is offering picnics to the public. Whether you just need a day to relax, or planning a special event, this beautiful backdrop is sure to be memorable. Picnic reservations can be made online, and several accommodations and upgrades are offered, including your choice of either Boho (low seating) or Original (table and chairs) seating, one umbrella, letter board with custom message, table setting with single use plates and cutlery, basket with small table games, admission for all guests.

“In a couple more weeks, our sunflowers will be in bloom, and that’s when the farm looks its best. In total I think we have a variety of 30 different kinds of flowers people can pick, and we still have flowers into November sometimes depending on the weather,” said Weed.

Hudson Wildflower Co. is located at Sonny Weed’s Fruit Farm: 444 Old Indian Road, Milton.

Hours of operation: Tuesday - Saturday 11 a.m. to Sunset, Closed Sunday and Monday.
