With new district lines comes a new, exciting state senatorial candidate for Marlborough.
While we lament our loss of NYS Senator James Skoufis after many years of dedicated representation, we have the opportunity to elect the youngest woman to represent upstate in the State Senate.
Michelle Hinchey is a champion for the environment, reproductive rights, education, affordability, and agriculture. In just one term, Sen. Hinchey had more bills signed into law than any other freshman legislator--53—tied for the most in the entire Senate.
Sen. Hinchey has delivered on a diverse range of issues, including securing the single-largest investment in rural and upstate housing and the highest agriculture budget in recent history, protecting reproductive rights, fighting the climate crisis, expanding broadband access and rural healthcare, and addressing food insecurity.
She brought middle-class income tax rates to their lowest in 70 years and accelerated their phase-in to take effect in tax year 2023.
She provided a $2.2 billion homeowner tax rebate, saving eligible homeowners on average between $610 and $803.
She created a new STAR property tax rebate for middle-class homeowners, secured $287 million in child tax credits for families making less than $100,000, and helped more seniors ages 65 and older receive a property tax exemption (S3085A).
When prices at the pump were at an all-time high this spring, Sen. Hinchey worked with legislative colleagues to deliver a statewide gas tax suspension, and partnered with then-Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan to increase those savings for Ulster County residents.
The choice for state senate is clear: Michelle Hinchey.
Early voting begins October 29.
