Marlborough swears in a new councilman

Last week Marlborough Town Clerk Colleen Corcoran administered the oath of office to Councilman Dave Zambito. He was the only one up for election last fall and ran unopposed. In November Zambito received 2,175 votes on the Republican line and 375 on the Conservative line and 32 write-in votes for a total of 2,582.

Supervisor Scott Corcoran teased Zambito on his ‘tough’ election.

“I am happy to say Councilman Zambito won his election in a landslide. It was a tight race but he pulled it out in the end,” he said. “We can’t say enough about Dave and all he does; he is a big part of our board just like everyone sitting up here. We’re happy to have him back officially for another year because he has to run again this year, so he’s getting acquainted with the way we run for office. It should be another fun year.”

Zambito will be running this November for a four year term, starting in 2024. He said there were no big surprises when he was first appointed to office to fill the remaining two years of Scott Corcoran, who moved up the Supervisor’s position.

“I’ve always been involved in the community for the last 30 years. I’m born and raised here, I’m self-employed and I know everybody. I’m always in the mix and this is nothing more than a title, so to speak,” he said.

Zambito enjoys serving his community.

“I’ll tell you this; it never stops, the phone rings at 6:30 in the morning and sometimes it rings at 10 at night on town stuff, but it makes you feel good at the end of the day,” he said. “Sometimes you have to tell people things they don’t want to hear but they can accept it if you’re honest and you can explain yourself.”

Zambito said the current town board has been working very well together; “just look what we’ve done in the last 12 months. It speaks for itself.”
Supervisor Corcoran agreed.

“We have a very seamlessly, well-tuned board right now as far as everybody working on the same page and wanting to do the same things to move the town forward with smart progress and smart building,” he said.

Zambito said it is not just the Town Board that deserves the credit.

“We’re working with all of the public officials and all their employees and whatever we ask, they’re more than willing to help out; you haven’t seen that in many years,” he said. “We really have great highway and water departments. They are always on board and they always help out and that was something that we were trying to get done.”

Corcoran said the Town Board has some ideas for the future, “but you gotta have the people that physically do the work to actually buy in to what we want to do.”
