Marlboro swimmers welcome new coach, new era

It’s the beginning of a new era for the Marlboro boys’ swimming team.

Not only has the Dukes’ standout swimmer Josh Johnson graduated and taken his three state championship meet berths with him, but they also will have a new coach as Valerie Bardunias takes over for former coach Amanda Creeden.

In addition to Johnson, Ayden Baxter, Hunter Sanchez and Aydyn Sanchez also have graduated from the school and team.

Returning to the team will be Chris Felker, Peter LoPresti, Caleb Corrado, Finn Wakely, Peter Loscerbo and Learyn Jackson.

The team will enter the season with the simple goal of improving their teams and making some Section 9 championship cuts.

The Dukes are scheduled for one home meet this year, which is scheduled for Dec. 17 against Our Lady of Lourdes and Rhinebeck.

“This is a group of swimmers who are continuing to improve and grow as a team,” Bardunias said. “We are trying to improve in all of the strokes and get faster.”
