Marlboro project nearly complete

In the next few weeks the Marlboro Vision 20/20 improvement project at the Middle school will be completed.

A new Main Office and entrance is finished, replete with locking front doors and a contact window with safety glass for the public. Offices for the Principal and Assistant Principal are centralized in this area.

The Main Office is on the same level as the parking lot and provides a better line of site for the greeter and the clerical staff.

A counseling suite now brings all of these services into one area of the school. There is a room for group counseling, a mindfulness space where students can calm down and de-stress, a conference room for parent/teacher and 504/IEP meetings and a student workplace/collaboration area.

Assistant Principal Demian Stanmyer said as a former Social Worker, “It’s great to have all the counselors together in one location, they can collaborate much better, have a space for mindfulness and a conference room where they can hold meetings and do mediation.

The new project provided a Technology Corner, that includes a Technology Lab for the 7th grade that has enough space for full classes. A Computer Lab that has dedicated space for new Mac 3D printer, a seating design that allows for easy teacher/student interaction as well as full view of demonstrations.

There is also an Innovation Lab for STEM 8th grade students and also an ease of seating design, and could also provide lunch and recess opportunities.

There is a new Music Suite that will be shared between band and chorus instruction. It has a keyboard and a Mac labs, practice rooms, storage for instruments and a performance space auditorium for small or large ensembles and choirs of varying sizes.

Principal Debra Clinton said, “It’s just a wonderful space and we can also use it right now for some of our lesson groups, and is in proximity to our new auditorium, which is a tremendous space that give us a lot of versatility and flexibility on how we design some small group space for performances in addition to allow the band and chorus to set up and to stay setup as it takes a lot of time to set those spaces up. It’s really an amazing addition to our building and an acknowledgment of the music program that we have in our district.”

Clinton pointed out that School Nurse Janine Beck is thrilled with her new office, that has rooms for privacy during exams or physicals, storage for medicine and supplies and a large bathroom.

In addition the Vision 20/20 project installed new boys and girls bathrooms on the ground floor and renovated those upstairs. There are new boys and girls locker rooms, and the cafeteria has also been renovated.
