Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) voted to pass H.R. 8294, a package of six appropriations bills that include over $21 million for community projects in the Hudson Valley. These local wins, announced last week will fund critical projects across the 18th District, including the reconstruction of the Newburgh Landing pier, major clean water investments in Putnam County, and public infrastructure improvements at Storm King Art Center.

“Today, the House passed legislation to fund nine vital projects here in the Hudson Valley that will help our communities for years to come,” said Maloney. “From expanding clean water infrastructure in Putnam County to restoring the Newburgh waterfront, I am proud to have worked with local leaders and community partners to identify these projects and pass them through the House.”

Funded projects include:
$3,452,972 for the Colden Park Watermain Replacement Project Phase III in the Town of Newburgh
The project involves the replacement of nearly two miles of existing watermain made of asbestos cement pipe from the 1950s serving the Colden Park neighborhood in the Town of Newburgh. This project will provide the residents of Colden Park with a new modern potable water system, which will reduce water main breaks, shutdowns, and boil water advisories for the residents.

“Congressman Maloney’s Federal support is instrumental to improving our communities’ infrastructure and improving residents’ quality of life. The Town of Newburgh thanks Congressman Maloney for his help in upgrading the water lines in Colden Park and making the Town of Newburgh a better place to live,” said Gil Piaquadio, Supervisor of the Town of Newburgh. “I cannot thank Congressman Maloney and his staff enough for making this impactful infrastructure improvement a reality.”

$1,650,000 for the Hasbrouck Area Drainage Project in the Town of Cornwall
This project involves the installation of drainage infrastructure within the Town of Cornwall to prevent frequent flooding that occurs during large storm events, resulting in reoccurring damages to the existing Town-owned drainage infrastructure and neighboring homes. This project will protect homes and local infrastructure from storm water related damage.

$3,452,972 for the Middletown Water System Improvements Project Phase III
This project will further a multi-stage upgrade to the water infrastructure in the City of Middletown. This funding will go towards replacing pipes that were constructed in 1887 with new infrastructure and is a furtherance of Rep. Maloney’s FY22 project to expand reliable water infrastructure in Middletown.

$4,000,000 for the Newburgh Landing Pier Project
This intermunicipal project between the County of Orange and the City of Newburgh is for the construction of the Newburgh Landing Pier. It will bring improved economic vitality to the community and enhance travel and tourism opportunities between the cities of Newburgh and Beacon, across the Hudson River. The pier will allow the Newburgh-Beacon Ferry to dock and transfer passengers. A larger fixed pier will accommodate larger cruise ships. Finally, a portion of the pier will consist of shaded seating and space for outdoor events, bringing new economic activity to the city.

$500,000 for the Orange & Dutchess Transportation Access & Mobility Study Project
This project will fund a study that will look at cross-river transportation access and mobility between Orange and Dutchess Counties. It will examine existing and alternative transportation options to connect New York Stewart International Airport and the Metro-North Beacon Train Station. This includes assessing the feasibility and cost of enhancing existing ferry and bus service, establishing a light rail line from Stewart International Airport to the Beacon Train Station, and making improvements to the cities of Newburgh and Beacon waterfronts.

$1,600,000 for the Storm King Entrance and Conservation Facility Renovation Project

This project will complete the renovation of the entrance and welcome facilities to the park along with the facility used for the conservation of art projects. This project will help sustain tourism and economic development in Orange County and the surrounding towns.
