Make your own tricorn hats and mobcaps

Washington’s Headquarters

Posted

Knitted caps, woolen berets and furry hoods are often worn during cold winter days. At Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, in Newburgh, you are invited to make your own topper – 18th century-style – during Thanksgiving weekend, Friday, November 25th and Saturday, November 26th, 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Since many tricorn hats and mobcaps were worn here during the last days of the Revolutionary War, when General and Mrs. Washington headquartered at Mrs. Hasbrouck’s farmhouse, it is appropriate they can still be seen here.

Create a tricorn or mobcap and strut your own stylish chapeau during a tour of the historic headquarters or while exploring the Museum, which houses such exhibits as Unpacked & Rediscovered: Selections from Washington’s Headquarters’ Collection, George Washington: Perspectives on His Life and Legacy, The Preservation of Washington's Headquarters, and the Junior Curator Project 2020.

This craft opportunity is free with admission.  Washington’s Headquarters SHS will be open from 11am until 3pm and is located on Liberty Street in Newburgh, New York.  For more information call 845-562-1195.
