Resorts World Hudson Valley, New York State’s newest casino, held its official grand opening on Wednesday, December 28 following a year of anticipation and construction.

Over the course of the past week, Resorts World Hudson Valley staff and crew, gaming machine technicians and additional crews worked to put the final touches on the casino prior to the grand opening. The newly opened casino, located in the former Bon-Ton Store space, has been under construction for the past year. The casino was set to open in the fall but was pushed back. The new casino today features 50,000 square feet of gaming and hospitality space; 1,200 slot machines, electronic table games at various sections and the Resorts World Bet Sports Bar are also to be included in the space.

Several walkways in the mall have been redone and several offices for Resorts World administration have been added into the mall. Additionally, several open store spaces now offer restaurants and additional venue opportunities to open and cater to the casino crowd. The casino is set to bring in 250 new full-time jobs with annual wage that includes salary and benefits of $72,000, and $65 million in taxes is to be contributed to support the state’s public schools from Resorts World.

Joining Meghan Taylor, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Relations, she shared that she is excited for the grand opening. Included in the design of the casino to incorporate elements of the Hudson Valley are murals of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, Bear Mountain Bridge and Mid-Hudson Bridge.

“We have 250 full time jobs, right here at Resorts World Hudson Valley currently, that number could go up from here. We had over 200 construction jobs, many of which were our local trades,” said Taylor. “Not only were we able to bring this project to the community, but the community built it. To see the life breathed back into the Newburgh Mall is something that is kind of near and dear to my heart.”

Anthony Bruno, Vice President of Operations at Resorts World Hudson Valley, has been working with his team and staff following a recent soft opening, looking to nail down the final touches and fine tuning prior to opening day. He shared he is confident in his team getting the casino ready for the community.

“I am doing fantastic. I’ve been working on this project at the Newburgh Mall for over a year now. And this is the culmination of so much hard work, creativity, effort, energy all coming together,” said Bruno. “I’m very excited to open up to guests on Wednesday, the 28th.”

The grand opening for the casino follows the Christmas holiday weekend right into the New Years Eve weekend, and Bruno looks forward to celebrating and sharing in the joy of this new casino space.

Glendalie Cruz, Beverage Manager for Resorts World Hudson Valley, shared in anticipation for the grand opening that she is making sure that everything is in place, her bottles are stocked and her staff is ready for the opening day. Several of her drink options come from the Newburgh area along with some from Beacon and the greater Hudson Valley; and members of her staff as well are also from the Newburgh area. “We’re excited to open, can’t wait to meet our guests, can’t wait to serve our guests,” said Cruz. “I’m excited to open these doors and just see this live already.”

“The team is ready. The facility is ready and I hope the community is ready,” said Taylor.
