Highland Huskies split opening week of play

The Highland High School baseball team opened its 2025 season with a split week, dominating Wallkill in its opener before falling short against a familiar foe the following day.

The Huskies made a statement in their season debut on Wednesday, April 2, rolling past Wallkill 14-4. Though statistics were not immediately available, Highland’s offense came alive in a big way, setting a strong tone to begin the spring campaign.
But that early momentum didn’t carry into Thursday, when Highland suffered a 9-6 home loss to Franklin D. Roosevelt. Despite keeping it close, the Huskies were unable to overcome the Presidents, who extended their winning streak against Highland to six games.

The defeat evened Highland’s record at 1-1, while Roosevelt improved to 2-0 on the young season.

Both teams now prepare for their first league matchups of the year. Highland is scheduled to travel to Ellenville on Monday for a 4:15 p.m. start, then visit New Paltz before returning home to host Chapel Field on Wednesday.

Roosevelt will continue its early-season push against rival Our Lady of Lourdes on Monday.
