Firefighters battle blaze in Cornwall-on-Hudson

Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a structure fire Saturday at 10 Stable Way that engulfed the building in flames.

Crews from Cornwall-on-Hudson Fire Department arrived to find heavy fire through the roof, prompting a second alarm. Reinforcements were called in from Cornwall, Vails Gate, West Point, and the Air National Guard fire departments.

Two hose lines were stretched to combat the fire, but flames continued to rage through the roof for 30 minutes. A full site for engines and tankers was established at Boulevard and Maple Road. Police closed Maple and Mountain roads to traffic to aid the response.

A third alarm summoned additional units from Woodbury and Highland Falls fire departments. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office canine unit and Central Hudson Gas & Electric were also called to assist, with power cut to the area.

After 60 minutes, firefighters had the bulk of the fire knocked down and began hitting hot spots. No injuries were reported, as the home was unoccupied at the time. Cornwall EMS provided medical support on-site, and local police managed traffic and road closures.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
