King Cuomo was finally forced from his throne after numerous allegations of sexual harassment and illegal retaliation against at least one of the victims came to light. His resignation is worth celebrating, but we have to remember that we have a long way to go to restore New York State to its former glory.
Currently we live in the state with the highest tax burden and worst business environment in the Union. Jobs and opportunities are scarce throughout much of Upstate New York, and our state has the dubious distinction of having one of the highest numbers of people fleeing to states they can actually afford to live in. This exodus recently cost us another seat in the House of Representatives. Parts of western New York are within the Rust Belt, where there is little to no economic development. Property taxes are a significant expense for middle and working class families. Small businesses are hamstrung by burdensome regulations, and the Second Amendment is dead.
King Cuomo is being replaced by Queen Kathy Hochul. I don’t expect to see Albany become less crooked or corrupt under her impending reign. She is not going to reverse New York’s decline, which began years before Cuomo was elected. Both Democrats and Republicans contributed to New York’s current ruinous state of affairs, and both parties will continue to hold hands and make things even worse.
The only way to restore liberty and economic security in New York State is to reject the two-party system outright and embrace the Libertarian Party, the only organized party of principle and the only party with cross-aisle appeal. We need to elect Libertarian candidates to all levels of government so they can restore liberty and justice to a state in dire need of both.
