Duck Derby set for Saturday

Posted

The inaugural Duck Derby in Wallkill will be held Saturday, May 14 at 3 p.m. on the Wallkill River, hosted by Vision of Wallkill and Wallkill High School’s Senior Celebration Committee. Yellow rubber ducks will be launched into the river, each racing to cross the finish line at Popp Park to claim the “Fastest Duck” award and a cash prize. Prizes for the 3 fastest ducks are: 1st place - $500, 2nd place - $250, 3rd place - $100. The last duck to cross the finish line will receive a ‘Six Quack’ of tickets for next year’s race. Ducks will be retrieved from the river after the race so that no ducks will be left in the river.

Ducks can be adopted at the Wallkill Public Library during regular library hours until Friday, May 13. Ducks may also be adopted at Popp Park from 12 – 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, derby day. The fun starts at 1:30 pm with a bake sale, music, raffles, games and other activities before the Duck Derby begins. Proceeds raised will benefit Wallkill’s Senior Class.

Show your support for Wallkill High School’s Senior Class. Adopt a duck, join the fun and watch the derby at Popp Park. Please note: weather and/or river conditions may cause the Duck Derby to be rescheduled. Look for updates on derby day on Vision of Wallkill’s and Senior Celebration Committee’s Facebook pages.
