Crawford PBA hosts senior luncheon

Posted

The Crawford Community Center was full of holiday spirit and good food this past Monday as different volunteers helped serve local seniors for the annual senior luncheon.

For over 25 years, the Town of Crawford PBA has hosted a holiday lunch for community seniors 62 and over. They usually serve around 150 seniors, although this year it was around 100. Still, the large event space was decorated with holiday wreaths, red and green tablecloths, and poinsettias to spread holiday cheer.

PBA President and Crawford police officer Daniel Boyd explained why they host the event. “It’s a way that we can have all the seniors from the community come together and give them a nice holiday meal,” said Boyd.

Boyd also noted that the seniors get to take some food and desserts home. On top of PBA members, local volunteers and other town officials attend the event.

Crawford Police Chief Dominick L. Blasko shared a bit about the event’s history, noting that he thinks it began around 1997. “It started upstairs in the senior center, and we used to get all the local businesses to give us food,” said Blasko.

The luncheon also allows for open communication between seniors and members of the PBA.“It also gives us a chance to talk to the seniors as well for any kind of problems that they might have or anything we can do to help them out,” Boyd noted.
The Crawford Police Department, Town of Crawford and the Pine Bush Volunteer Fire Department also contributed to this event.
