The Highland Falls Intermediate School CONNECT program’s Wild Wonders class, taught by Mr. Anthony, teaches the students survival skills they could use if needed in the great outdoors. For instance, last week they built a shelter to protect themselves from rain – it was made out of sticks and sheets of plastic. The children also made a chair using two trees and string; they must have done a good job because it was able to support three boyx at once! The students also discussed camp cleanliness, how to build a fire and using whatever supplies they could find for shelter. CONNECT is a free after-school program for children in second to sixth grades provided by West Point’s Association of Graduates. For more on what they do, follow them on Facebook at Hudson Valley Program.
