City police investigate shooting incident

On July 20, , at about 11:12 p.m., City of Newburgh Police Officers received a Shotspotter activation in the area of 100 William Street for 21 rounds. Officers located 21 expended shell casings of varying calibers - .40, 9mm, and .380 casings – which indicated that at least three separate handguns had been fired during the incident. At least two vehicles were struck by gunfire, and a 36-year-old male was shot at least once and sustained non-life threatening injuries to his neck and his back.
While officers were processing the aforementioned shooting scene, they received another Shotspotter activation in the area of Johnston Street and Campbell Street for 16 rounds. Officers located a total of thirteen .40 expended shell casings in the area. At least one vehicle was struck by gunfire, but there are no known shooting victims at this time.
Police are looking for any witnesses who may been in the area at the time of either incident. Anyone with any information is asked to call the City of Newburgh Police Department at 845-569-7509. Callers can remain anonymous.
