The City of Newburgh seeks to fill two vacated positions on the Board of Assessment Review. The terms for these position end on September 30, 2025 and September 30, 2024 respectively.

The Board of Assessment Review is a quasi-judicial body charged with the responsibility to obtain facts and apply appropriate laws and reasoning to the facts in a fair and judicious manner.

This five panel Board meets annually on Grievance Day, the 4th Tuesday in May, to hear assessment complaints of taxpayers who have filed timely written grievances. The Board reconvenes in June to discuss the facts and make a determination on each complaint.
Newly appointed members are required to attend a training session given by the Orange County Real Property Director, to be held in 2022, date TBD. Upon completion of this training, the City Clerk administers the Oath of Office.

Qualifications: Real Property Tax Law requires members of the board to have knowledge of property values in the assessing unit; must be at least 18 years old; citizens of the United States and residents of the assessing unit (City of Newburgh).
