The City of Newburgh Fire Department was dispatched, Tuesday morning at 7:50 a.m. to a structure fire at 225 Third Street. At 7:51, Newburgh Car 3 arrived on location and found smoke coming from a vacant structure.
A second alarm was sounded by the incident commander. The building crews discovered a fire in the basement. Fire crews stretched hand lines and extinguished the fire.
According to City Fire Investigators the cause of the fire was the misuse of smoking materials.
