Maybrook Church to host sale
The Maybrook United Methodist Church will hold a sale on August 9 and 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can browse a variety of new and gently used items, including household goods, jewelry, clothing, and holiday decor.

St Andrew’s Church presents ‘Thrifting in the Square’
St. Andrew Episcopal Church (15 Walnut Street, Walden) hosts Thrifting in the Square every Saturday through August 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clothes, housewares, furniture, raffles and much, much more.

Pine Bush Library to host Farm Day on August 17
The Pine Bush Library invites the community to “Farm Day at the Pine Bush Library” on August 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a variety of farm animals, including tractors, horses, goats, pigs, birds, and more. Local businesses and community partners will also be present to showcase their offerings.

Wallkill Lodge hosts annual BBQ to support local Food Pantry
Wallkill Lodge No. 627 will host its 2024 Annual Chicken BBQ on Saturday, August 17, from 12 to 5 p.m. at James W. Olley Community Park, Sherman Avenue, Walden. The event, aimed at raising funds for the Montgomery Food Pantry, offers a meal of half a chicken, corn, potato salad, and rolls.

Tickets for the BBQ are priced at $25 for pre-sale and $30 on the day of the event. They can be purchased online through Eventbrite, from lodge members, or via Venmo. In addition to enjoying a meal, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a “sponsor a meal” program. This initiative allows donors to provide a meal for a person in need, further supporting the community effort to ensure no one goes hungry.
The Masons of Wallkill Lodge, located on Main Street in Walden, encourage the community to join in this event, which combines fellowship with charitable giving. The proceeds from the BBQ will directly benefit the Montgomery Food Pantry, helping to provide essential support to local families.

Humane Society will celebrate 50 years with Blue Jean Ball
The Humane Society of Walden, an animal shelter established in 1974, has spent the past half-century rehabilitating thousands of pets in North Orange County and South Ulster County, helping them find their forever homes. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the organization will host a Blue Jean Ball fundraiser on Saturday, August 17 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Plesantly Devine Stables, located in Rock Tavern at 97 Maple Avenue.

After ordering their tickets, attendees can enjoy food and beverages, browse vendors, play lawn games like Jenga and corn hole, enter tricky trays and 50/50 raffles, and more. Several of the Humane Society’s adoptable pets and Plesantly Devine Stables’ goats will also make guest appearances and interact with the crowd.

Dogs are welcome to join the fun but must be leashed. Denim is not required.

Walden Fire Department to Host 2nd Annual Golf Tournament
The Walden Fire Department will hold its 2nd Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, at Scott’s Corners Golf Course, 1 Golf Course Rd, Montgomery. The rain date is set for Sept. 21.

The event will start with breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m. The cost is $100 per person or $360 per foursome, which includes 18 holes, a cart, food, and non-alcoholic beverages.

Town of Wallkill to host annual Community Day
The Town of Wallkill will celebrate its annual Community Day on Saturday, September 21, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Galleria at Crystal Run, in the Macy’s parking lot. The event, hosted by Town Supervisor George Serrano and the Town Board, offers a variety of activities and services for the community.
The Mount Sinai Robert Smith Mobile Prostate Cancer Screening Unit will be available, providing free health screenings. Attendees can also enjoy food from local food trucks, shop with vendors, and participate in unicorn and pony rides for children.

Entertainment will include DJ Jason Jaso, a car show, and live music performances by One Swift Kick Band and Cuboricua Latin Band.
Community members are invited to join this festive day, which aims to foster community spirit and provide valuable resources and entertainment.

Walden Library notes
There has been a change in the band line up for Music in the Grove. Unfortunately, the Hillbilly Parade will not be available on Wednesday, 8/14. Fortunately the Kinfolk will be stepping in! They will bring us the best of today’s country hits and yesterday’s classic rock. The Feds will make their return on 8/21. Let’s hope that Wednesdays in August will be a bit drier!

The Walden Knights Chess Club will meet on Saturday, August 17, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
