On Wednesday June 15th, at approximately 8:45 a.m., the Town of Newburgh Police responded to the Newburgh Beacon Bridge for the report of a man, according to a 3rd party caller, contemplating jumping off the bridge. 

Officers arrived and started to quickly cover all areas on both spans on the bridge. A man was spotted in the water near mid bridge span. According to Town of Newburgh Police, the man was moving and waving his arms. He was attempting to swim towards the Newburgh shoreline. 

As arrangements were being made to get a boat in the water to assist the man, the man's progress toward the shore line was beginning to decline. Assuming the man was slowing his pace because of injury or exhaustion, Town of Newburgh Sgt. Matthew Nadolny was able to utilize a jet ski from a civilian in the Newburgh Yacht Club.  Nadolny worked his way out to the victim, got him aboard the jet ski and safely brought him to the shore line where EMT's were waiting. 

Thanks to the quick, coordinated efforts of the Town of Newburgh Police, State Police, New York State Bridge Authority and City of Newburgh Police, it does not appear the victim suffered any serious injuries and was transported by Town of Newburgh Volunteer Ambulance to the hospital. 

At this time, the incident is still under investigation and no names are being released.
