The City of Newburgh is pleased to announce the appointment of attorney Anika Mohammed as City of Newburgh Court Judge effective July 12, 2021. The appointment was made by Mayor Torrance R. Harvey after former City Court Judge Peter Kuklin vacated the office upon his retirement.
Judge Mohammed’s term is set to expire following the results of the next general city election on November 2, 2021. A City Court Judge position will be on the ballot for City voters in this November’s election.
Judge Mohammed is a former Assistant District Attorney in Orange County. In this position, she has handled felony and misdemeanor matters, including prosecution of larceny, driving, violent, and traffic offenses. She left the DA’s office to open a private practice in Highland Mills.
Mohammed, is a life long resident of the Hudson Valley. She received her paralegal certificate from Marist College in 2009, her Baccalaureate degree from Marist in 2010 before attending Pace Law School. The new judge graduated with her law degree in May of 2014 and was admitted to the NYS Bar in September of 2015.
