Yvonne (Vonnie) Lucille Flemming Lawrence passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 5, 2023.

A lifelong Town of Newburgh resident, Yvonne was born June 28, 1928 to Randolph C. and Edna (Ernst) Flemming. She attended NFA, where she excelled in sports throughout her high school years. She proudly earned a basketball scholarship to Brockport College upon her graduation in 1947. However, Vonnie had always said she wanted to marry a farmer, and putting aside further schooling she married Robert Lawrence, a 3rd generation farmer, on November 19, 1949.

Born in a time that often considered “a woman’s place was in the home” Vonnie stepped outside the expected. For over 20 years she worked beside her husband on the dairy farm while raising five children. In the late 60’s Vonnie and Bob took a leap of faith, sold the dairy farm and started over. They built a new home and a new life on what is now Lawrence Farms Orchards. Married to Bob over 65 years, Yvonne’s focus remained constant: her family, her friends and the farm.

Yvonne’s own youthful dedication to sports carried through to encouragement and support for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in any athletic activities. For herself, Yvonne enjoyed watching the Olympics, football, soccer or any sport on TV, but especially “her Yankees”.

A woman of devotion, Yvonne loved the Lord. She touched the lives of many through the years of her spiritual journey. One of the most important parts of healing in her life was her recovery with AA for over 47 years. Yvonne also treasured the blessings and fellowship she received as a member of the Sand Angels for nearly 20 years.

Yvonne was predeceased by her husband Robert, her sisters Barbara and Julie and her brother Butch. She is survived by her sister Susan A. Flemming of Walworth, WI, children Margaret (Thom) Waz of Newburgh, John (Kim) Lawrence of Wappinger, David Lawrence of Key West, FL, Richard (Jane) Lawrence of Newburgh and Daniel (Shannon) Lawrence of Palm City, FL. Known as Memom to the younger generations she is survived by her 15 grandchildren: Ellen, Anna (Brian Casey), Erin (Mike Cunningham) and Graig (Emily) Waz, Kiel (Meghan) Lawrence and Megan (Ryan) Wiley, Reginald (Katy), Christine and Ross Lawrence, Michael (Jessica) and Kevin (Jennifer) Lawrence, Theresa (Scott) Driggs and Giovanna (Tradelle) Ward, Luke (Megan) and Eric (Amanda) Lawrence, and her 21 great-grandchildren: Cameron Waz, Owen Casey, Brayden Ernst, Ryan, Brooke and Hudson Lawrence, Lachlan and Finnian Wiley, Mason and Gage Lawrence, Julianna, Lily, Eve and Mackenzie Lawrence, Amelia and Mark Lawrence, Harper, Isla and Sloane Driggs, Sienna Ward, and Luna Rose Lawrence, several nieces and nephews, and the many wonderful children and grandchildren of her “adopted families”.

Yvonne’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her at-home caregivers: Catherine, Evett, Heather, Fiona, JoAnn, Melinda and Wanita. Also, our thanks go out to Hospice of Orange County as well as to the many supportive friends and members of our adopted families for their faithful, compassionate care for Memom during her journey.

Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at White, Venuto and Morrill Funeral and Cremation Service, 188 North Plank Road, Newburgh, NY 12550. Funeral services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
