Hello Ms. Pitt, I do hope that you recall me; the bothersome fellow who lived in the village on Redoubt Street during my formative years. It seems that a lifetime has passed by (in the blink of an eye); although many wonderful memories remain. Due to my finger getting tired, a somewhat limited list of establishments which I do recall would include:
Tony’s Market (on Lake Street), Michels, The Hub, Andy Rouners, Ray’s Department store (Arbeit), Jimmy Collum’s (later Rafferty’s), Tony Colle’s (later Gasthus Tyroller), The Pickwick, Albie Moglia’s Liquor store, Henry Louie’s Cleaner (North-end), Fireside, The Venice, Al Cohen’s (which became the Park Restaurant), Charlie’s Hilltop, South Gate Tavern, City Theater (City???), Joe’s Barber Shop (Grimaldi) --Joe was related to the prince of Monaco, Bavaro’s Cleaners (South end), Whippoorwill, Shorter’s Men’s Shop, Highland Falls News offices, Idlewood Drive-in, Hoffman’s Hardware, Ben Rose Hardware, Graber’s Florist, Graber’s Lumber, William F. Hogan’s, (Shoe repair near Center Street), (Shoe repair on Main Street), Brogi’s Bowling Alley, and the newer bowling lanes - which were perhaps named Pine Terrace?
..... Plus various auto dealers who made a monetary “killing” each year, when the “Firsties” were allowed to get their cars. (After graduation, they were finally permitted to acquire a horse...aka car, a wife, and facial hair; referring to a mustache).
I’m so sorry that many...many...many businesses have been omitted; due to my failing neuro-connectors. Tell the village and town that I send best wishes and a whole lotta love.
