America, not my America, has elected Trump to be president again, number 47, to serve another four years in the White House. America has turned a blind eye to the criminal behavior of a sociopathic convicted felon. My America would never do such a thing. My America sees clearly for what Trump is. He is a military-maligning, election-denying, fear-mongering, power-seeking autocrat who embraces conspiracy theories; who views democracy and the constitution as nuisances that can be cast aside at his convenience. My America would never vote for a man who breeds racism, bigotry and hatred; a man who has poisoned the political landscape with falsehood and fabrication for his benefit. My America would never vote for a man who has replaced civility in political discourse with rancor and vulgarity; a man who has deeply divided our nation to advance his political agenda. My America would never vote for a man whose DNA is saturated with narcissism; a narcissism that requires continuous nourishment of flattery and favor; a narcissism susceptible to manipulation by friend or foe. No, my America could never vote for a man of such disqualifying temperament.
My America believes religiously in democracy. She has an abiding reverence for the constitution. Her democratic principles are sacrosanct. Her democratic institutions are worthy of respect. Her values are iron-clad. My America could never exonerate Trump of his criminality, setting him free of any guilt. He is my America’s nemesis. This is a man who should be occupying a prison cell, not the White House.
Wednesday, the day Trump was declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election, is a tragic day for our democracy, constitution and Republic. Here’s an appropriate quote from a NY Times journalist: “ Democracy dies in darkness. “ Well, with Trump in the White House, it’s going to get real dark.
