There are three upcoming free, open to the public, concerts at Orange Hall Gallery, SUNY Orange.
First, the SUNY Orange Choir will present a Holiday Concert along with the SUNY Orange Symphonic Band on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Orange Hall Gallery.
The Choir is under the direction of Kim Carver will be singing songs from a variety of genres including jazz arrangements Save the Bones for Henry Jones and More I Cannot Wish You as well as holiday selections: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Season of Light and Welcome Yule. The Symphonic Band, directed by Jennifer Budryk is focusing on chamber music for this concert and will perform festive and famous chorales by Holst, Owens and Erickson. This is a free concert, and all are welcome to enjoy a wonderful evening of Joyful Cheer.
Next, the Jazz Ensemble at SUNY Orange performs in concert on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Directed by Darius Beckford. The Jazz Ensemble is comprised of SUNY Orange students and community residents. The setlist which the Ensemble will follow includes many jazz standards as well as new pieces on its program: Deluge - Wayne Shorter; Blue Dreams - Thomas Brendel; There Will Never Be - Harry Warren; Saga of Harrison Crabfeathers - Steve Kuhn; Pent Up House - Sonny Rollins; Twilight World - Marian McPartland; Butterfly - Herbie Hancock; and Blue Skies - Irving Berlin.
Finally, on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. the SUNY Orange Chamber Ensembles are giving a free concert that is open to the public.
Under the direction of Richard Simon, the performance highlights the Waltz No. 2 from the Suite for Variety Orchestra by Dmitri Shostakovich and the rarely performed Octet, Op.80 by Heinrich Hofmann. Also, because it is the holiday season, the Ensembles offer the audience the opportunity to participate by playing a few festive sing-a-long tunes.
