Marlboro Milton Seniors Club
Seniors 55 and older are invited to join the Marlboro Milton Seniors Club for weekly Thursday meetings at the Marlboro-Milton Community Center. Chair yoga sessions are also offered Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The club hosts trips, bingo and birthday celebrations throughout the year. Marlboro students return to class Wednesday, Sept. 3. Fall sports practices begin Monday, Aug. 18, for junior varsity and varsity teams. Modified sports kick off Sept. 3, with schedules posted the week of Aug. 25. Practice schedules can be found at https://5il.co/3nkmy.

Marlboro Free Library
The Marlboro Free Library Book Club will meet Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. to discuss Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. Copies are available at the circulation desk. Walk-ins are welcome.

Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library
The Book Lovers Club will meet Thursday, Aug. 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. to discuss Killing Floor by Lee Child, the first Jack Reacher novel. Copies may be ordered through the library.

Schooner Apollonia
The Milton Train Station will host a screening of the documentary Windshipped on Friday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m., followed by a dockside event with the Schooner Apollonia at the Landing. The sailing vessel transports locally sourced products using wind power and traditional methods. Learn more at schoonerapollonia.com.

St. Mary’s Church
The St. Mary’s rectory will be closed Sept. 1-5. Messages may be left for emergencies. Fr. Tom will also be away during that week, and there will be no daily mass. Parishioners may attend daily services at nearby parishes: St. Augustine’s, Highland (7 a.m. Monday-Friday); Our Lady of Fatima, Plattekill (10 a.m. Tuesday-Friday); Sacred Heart, Newburgh (9 a.m. Monday-Saturday); and St. Francis, Newburgh (noon Monday-Friday). Beginning Sept. 7, rectory hours will be Mondays 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and Fridays 9 a.m.-noon.

Weekly Recipe
Hamburger Potato Casserole

Ingredients: 1 lb. ground beef (85/15), 1 diced onion, 3-4 lbs. russet potatoes sliced thin, 8 oz. shredded sharp cheddar, 1 can cheddar cheese soup, 12 oz. evaporated milk, ½ cup milk, 1 tsp. salt, ½ tsp. pepper.
Directions: Preheat oven to 350°F. Brown beef and onion; drain. Layer potatoes, beef and cheese in a greased 9x13 pan. Whisk soup, milk and seasonings; pour over layers. Cover and bake 60 minutes, then uncover and bake 15 minutes until golden.
