Highland volleyball goes 1-2 over three-match stretch
The Highland girls volleyball team dropped two close contests before rallying for a five-set win to close out the week.

On Sept. 29, Highland fell to Lourdes in straight sets, 15-25, 22-25, 17-25. Avery Sosnick had 1 kill, 15 assists, 8 digs, 3 aces and 2 blocks for the Huskies. Maddie Violaris added 4 kills, 14 digs and 6 aces, while KaiLani Angiolillo had 5 kills, 8 digs and 1 ace. Annabella Bruschetti finished with 5 kills, 3 digs and 1 block.

Highland lost again the following night to Spackenkill, 11-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 14-16. Sosnick recorded 3 kills, 22 assists, 14 digs and 2 blocks. Logan VanZandt had 4 kills, 14 digs, 5 aces and 1 block, while Keira Bishop tallied 7 kills, 4 digs and 1 block. Alexis Violaris added 5 kills and 6 blocks.

The Huskies bounced back Oct. 3 with a thrilling five-set victory over New Paltz, 23-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 17-15. Bruschetti led the way with 8 kills, 4 digs, 1 ace and 6 blocks. Bishop added 8 kills and 1 block, and Sosnick contributed 30 assists, 8 digs, 2 aces and 1 block. VanZandt had 4 kills, 14 digs and 2 aces.

For New Paltz, Anna Maiale finished with 23 kills, 11 digs, 1 block and 6 aces, and Talia Telmont had 4 kills, 19 assists, 1 dig, 1 block and 2 aces.

Huleatt scores six as Mount Academy stays unbeaten
Brooke Huleatt scored six goals to lead Mount Academy past Wallkill, 8-2, on Oct. 3.

Nina Wright and Shannon Clement each added a goal for the Eagles, who improved to 10-0-0. Clement, Wright and Sonia Maendel each had two assists, while Biene Clement and Huleatt added one apiece. Goalkeeper Kate Moody made 15 saves in the win.

For Wallkill (9-2-0), Hayley Presto scored both goals. Aiofe Brady finished with 17 saves.


Mount Academy blanks New Paltz behind goals from Page, Hindley
The Mount Academy boys soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout over New Paltz on Oct. 3.

Jaren Page and Carl Hindley each scored for the Eagles, with assists from Damon King and Michael Meier. Goalkeeper Johann Fransham made four saves to record the clean sheet as Mount improved to 8-2-1.

New Paltz goalkeeper Heath Lester stopped eight shots in the loss, as the Huguenots fell to 7-2-1.
