Highland girls soccer wins first two
The Highland girls soccer team opened its season with a dominant road win and followed it up with a narrow home victory to start 2-0.

The Huskies blanked Ellenville 9-0 on Sept. 2 behind a balanced offensive effort. Kaylee Arciuolo, Raquel Marreiros, Sophie Valentino and Sadie Hollifield each scored twice, while Ava Acompora added a goal. Goalkeeper Bella Giangrasso made four saves to secure the shutout, Highland’s fourth straight win over the Blue Devils.
Highland carried its defensive form into Friday’s home match, edging Roosevelt 1-0 to record a second consecutive clean sheet.

Highland opens volleyball

The Highland varsity girls volleyball team opened its season with a convincing victory followed by a hard-fought loss during the first week of play.

Highland dominated Onteora on Sept. 4, sweeping the match 25-12, 25-8, 25-9. KaiLani Angiolillo contributed 4 kills, 2 digs and 3 aces for the winners, while Annabella Bruschetti added 5 kills. Avery Sosnick distributed 8 assists and served 2 aces.

The following day, Highland fell to FDR in straight sets 14-25, 22-25, 20-25. Despite the loss, several Highland players turned in strong individual performances. Maddie Violaris led the team with 10 kills, 12 digs and 5 aces, while Logan VanZandt recorded 2 kills and 8 digs. Sosnick had a team-high 20 assists along with 7 digs and 1 ace. Angiolillo added 6 kills, 7 digs and 1 block.

FDR was paced by Autumn McRae’s 11 kills, 5 digs and 3 aces. Quinn Eidel contributed 6 kills, 2 digs and 2 blocks for the winners. Kiera Bove led FDR with 23 assists, 11 digs and 3 aces, while Abbey Greenspan recorded 14 digs and 3 aces.

Mount Academy girls dominant
in opening week
Senior striker Brooke Huleatt powered the Mount Academy girls soccer team to a dominant start to the season, scoring 14 goals across three shutout wins in the opening week.

Huleatt netted all four goals in Mount Academy’s 4-0 road win over Red Hook on Sept. 2, with assists from Shannon Clement and Nina Wright. Goalkeeper Kate Moody recorded three saves for the shutout.

The Eagles kept rolling at the NYSSCOGS Hall of Fame Tournament. On Sept. 5, Huleatt struck six times and Wright added a goal in a 7-0 win over Cobleskill-Richmondville. Marlys Swinger tallied three assists, while Jaclyn Maendel added two. Moody stopped five shots.

Mount Academy capped the week with an 8-0 rout of Scotia-Glenville, as Huleatt and Wright each scored four goals. Assists came from Deanna Wiser (2), Huleatt (2), Swinger, Wright and Sonia Maendel. Moody made two saves.

Mount Academy opened the season 3-0, outscoring opponents 19-0.

Mount Academy boys open season with pair of dominant wins
Mount Academy boys soccer kicked off its 2025 campaign in dominant fashion, outscoring opponents 15-2 in its first two matches of the season.

The Eagles opened with a 9-1 road victory at Red Hook on Sept. 3, led by a hat trick from Michael Meier. Damon King added two goals, while Craig Baird, Carl Hindley, Eric Lowenthal and Sean Huleatt also scored. Lowenthal and Meier each added assists, and goalkeeper Johann Fransham made one save.

Mount Academy kept the momentum rolling in its home opener on Sept. 5, topping Rondout Valley 6-1. Jaren Page netted two goals, while Maendel, Lowenthal, Baird and Brandon Kaiser chipped in one each. Six different players registered assists, with Fransham collecting four saves. Rondout’s lone tally came on an own goal.

The Eagles improved to 2-0.
