Salvatore “Sam” Scilla Jr. Passed away on Sunday December 18, 2022 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, NY. He was 90 years old. Sam was born on August 7, 1932 in Marlboro, NY. He was the son of Salvatore Scilla Sr. and Carmela Anfuso Scilla.
Sam was employed by IBM as a Lab Technician for 35 years. During his employment, he was awarded 13 patents. Sam was a Veteran of the Korean War and served on the USS Wasp CV-18 from 1951-1955. He awarded four medals during his service. He was a former member of the Marlboro- Milton Lions Club. He was a member of the USS Wasp Association. He served as an Usher for St. Mary’s Parish Marlboro.
Survivors include his daughters Christine Wolff and husband John of Marlboro, Kathleen Mackey and husband Mark of Milton, NY, son Salvatore “Sam” Scilla and wife Sharon of Marlboro. Grandsons: Shane Mackey and fiancé Ashley, Daniel Wright Granddaughters: Deanna Cashin and husband Drew, Kaitlyn Scilla, Sara Mackey and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Catherine Scilla, his parents and two brothers; Joe Scilla and Anthony Scilla, and sister Anna Marie Scilla.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid NY Yankees and NY Rangers Fan. He was a Marlboro Little League coach prior to initiating a local kids baseball day, “Saturday Baseball Day”.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 between the hours of 4 - 7 p.m. at the DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Route 9W, Marlboro, NY 12542.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday December 23, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church 1209 Route 9W, Marlboro, NY 12542.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery with full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, one may make a donation in memory of Sam to a charity of your choice.
