He was the son of Henry Hugh Sweetman and Anne Sweetman Fox (nee Cummings) and stepson of Robert P. Fox, all of whom pre-deceased Paul.
He is survived by his brother, James H. Sweetman; his sister Margaret Sweetman-van Luyn (Ole); his nephew, James J. Sweetman (Lauren) and their children, Mikaila, Connor, and Collin. Paul is also survived by his extended family: Marilyn Minard, Laurie Minard, grandchildren Chelsea, James and Holly Minard, Olivia van Meter; great-grandchildren Elijah, Kalvin, Paisley and many relatives and friends. Paul was pre-deceased by his stepson, James A. Minard Jr. (Laurie) on June 20, 2023.
Paul loved his family, friends and his career. He greatly valued many of his colleagues who referred to him as the “go-to-guy” for answers; Paul was known to be dogged in his investigations. His many relatives and many friends will miss his “gift of the gab” and very long, corny jokes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, on Wednesday, August 23 from 2 - 5 p.m.. Interment of cremains will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Paul’s name to: The Smile Train, Habitat for Humanity or Heifer International.
