On September 9, 1945, in New Paltz, New York, Oliver married the love of his life, L. Marie Smith. They had over 66 happy years together before her passing in June of 2011.

Ollie was a lifelong member of the New Paltz Fire Department. He would often be seen outside doing yard work, riding his tractor, snow-blowing or just sitting enjoying the sunshine. He loved to dance, enjoyed laughter and was quite the jokester. He had a 1967 Mustang Convertible which he liked to drive and tinker with. He was a man of many hats: not only doing odd jobs but literally he had quite the collection of baseball hats.
