New programs gearing up at the Marlboro Free Library

Marlboro Elementary
Families gathered recently at Marlboro Elementary School for the annual “Chalk the Walk” event. Colorful messages lined the walkways, welcoming students on their first day of school.
With the new year underway, district officials remind families to expect possible bus delays during the first week as drivers adjust to their routes. The district thanks parents for their patience as transportation staff work to ensure all students arrive safely.

Adult Ed. registration open
The Marlboro Central School District is offering a variety of fall adult education classes, including swimming, yoga, Zumba, Mah Jongg and creative writing. Registration is open now, and classes will begin soon. More information is available at marlboroschools.org/article/1712427.

St. Mary’s Church Updates
St. Mary’s Church is now taking registrations for Religious Education. Forms are available at the back of the church. No one will be turned away. Faith Formation begins in October. Call 845-393-5005 or religiouseducation71@gmail.com.
The Mass Intention Book for 2026 will open Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the rectory office. Parishioners who are homebound may call the office to reserve intentions.
Marlboro Free Library News
The library will begin construction in early September. The side parking lot and community room will be closed, and visitors should expect daytime construction noise. Beginning Sept. 3, parking will be available in the front lot only. Programs will move to offsite locations, which are listed on the library website and event calendar.

Fall Family Yoga
Sessions will be offered Sept. 15 and Oct. 6 from 5 to 5:45 p.m. at Cluett Schantz Memorial Park in Milton. No registration is required. Participants should bring mats, blankets or towels, and water.

The library’s September
Book Club
Book Club will meet Sept. 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. to discuss The Catskills: Its History and How It Changed America by Stephen M. Silverman and Raphael D. Silver. Copies are available at the circulation desk.

The Marlborough Makers Club The Makers will host a virtual Adult Take & Make craft class Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Participants will paint wood slices for ornaments or wall décor. Registration is required at marlborolibrary.org, and supplies will be available for pickup at the library.

Recipe of the Week: Oven-Fried Squash or Zucchini

2 medium yellow squash or zucchini, sliced into ¼-inch rounds
½ cup buttermilk (or milk plus 1 tsp. lemon juice)
½ cup cornmeal
½ cup panko breadcrumbs
¼ cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
½ tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. paprika
Salt and black pepper to taste
Olive oil spray
Preheat oven to 425°F. Soak squash rounds in buttermilk for 10 minutes. Mix dry ingredients in a shallow dish. Coat squash slices and arrange on a lined baking sheet. Spray lightly with olive oil. Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crisp. Serve hot with your favorite dip.

Around Town
Heart of the Hudson Valley Farmers Market runs Saturdays, 9 a.m.–2 p.m., through early October at Cluett Schantz Park in Milton.

Milton Engine Co. will host its annual Cornhole on the Hudson Tournament Sept. 20. Registration is at noon, with bags flying at 12:30 p.m. Competitive and social divisions, cash prizes, food, drinks and raffles are planned. Cost is $80 per team or $40 per person.

The Memorial Bocce Tournament at Cluett Schantz Park is set for Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. Cash prizes will be awarded, with half the proceeds benefiting Hospice.
