On Saturday, September 14, Locust Grove Brewery, at 162 North Road in Milton, is hosting a Motorcycle Ride to Prevent Suicide in memory of Matthew R. Bewick, 1992-2023.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and kick strands are up at 11:30 a.m., rain or shine. The cost is $25 per rider or $40 for a rider and passenger. It includes a chicken BBQ that starts at 2:30 p.m.

All of the proceeds go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. There will be a 50/50 raffle and T shirts will be available. For more information contact Bob Keator at 845-728-4576 or by email at cmbats@aol.com.

Cynthia and Bob Keator wrote a touching tribute about Matthew.

“Our son, Matthew Bewick, died tragically by suicide on October 24, 2023. Needless to say, it has been a very difficult time for our family. Matt was a great son, nephew, cousin and friend. Matt meant a great deal to a lot of people. Matt had a heart of gold, he was kind, respectful, and funny with a hearty laugh. He loved, and was loyal to his family and friends. He considered his friends like family and they all knew it. Matt was a dedicated pipe fitter/welder for local 373 in Newburgh.

Through all of this, our family has found comfort in raising money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention [AFSP].

“If we can help at least one family to not endure the devastation and trauma we have suffered, all of our efforts will be well worth it. Thank you for supporting our cause. You can pre-register for the motorcycle ride and/or make a donation at mattsspiritliveson.com.

If you would prefer, you may attend the chicken BBQ only and tickets will be sold at the door.”

Matthew’s obituary highlighted his love of the outdoors, fishing, snowmobiling, ice hockey and baseball. His favorite saying was, “Blood makes us relatives, but loyalty makes us family.” Matt will always be remembered for his caring and kind heart, infectious smile, hearty chuckle and kick-ass beard.”
