Milton celebrates the season

The Hamlet of Milton Association sponsored their 9th annual tree lighting ceremony this past Sunday afternoon. The hamlet was closed to traffic, all but to one Milton Fire Department truck that transported Santa to meet the kids so he could listen to their wish list of gifts. The tree was donated by the Highland Fire Department.

Association member Vivian Lanzarone said they are still active and the town has joined in to help with certain events. She thanked Bob Pollock for the use of his property on Main Street to hold the tree lighting event.

After speaking with Santa, each child received a free stuffed animal that was picked up from Pet Smart and donated to the Police Department by Tammy Corcoran for their toy drive. Chief Gerald Cocozza brought 5 large bags filled with the animals that were distributed to the kids at the tree lighting.

“They are so cute and a big hit; it worked out so well,” Lanzarone said.

Lanzarone thanked Locust Grove Fruit Farm and Frida’s Bakery for donating apple cider, coffee and treats at no charge to the residents. The Cub Scouts led everyone in singing holiday favorites while DJ Chris Whitson, of the Whitson Entertainment Group, provided the sound. The Sarah Hull Hallock Library staff set out a crafts table and worked with the children.
