Michael P. O’Connor, of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on October 20, 2024 while in Mykonos, Greece on vacation. He was 69 years old.
The son of the late John F. O’Connor and Margaret M. (Cahill) O’Connor, Michael was born on September 6, 1955 in the Bronx, NY.
Michael was a retired attorney at the Rockland County Public Defender’s Office, having worked as an attorney for over 35 years in private and public service positions. Michael was a proud veteran and served his country honorably as a Captain in the United States Air Force.
Michael was described by his family and friends as a kind, intelligent but humble man, extremely devoted to his family. In his spare time, he loved to travel, taking his family and friends all around the world. Michael also took an interest in history, authoring two books and numerous articles on the history of the Wild West. He was known for his charitable contributions, receiving numerous awards for donating his legal expertise to survivors of 9/11. Those who met Michael will never forget him, leaving a void which will never be filled.
Michael was predeceased by his loving wife Laura A. (McArdle) O’Connor of 36 years. He is survived by his wife: Elise M. (Toman) O’Connor; his sons: Patrick J. O’Connor and his wife Cassandra of Cornwall, NY and Sean M. O’Connor of Staten Island, NY; his daughter: Margaret (O’Connor) Cuomo and her husband Kevin of Cranford, NJ; his sister Sharon (O’Connor) Lennon and her husband Michael; grandchildren: Liam, Owen, and Maeve Cuomo, and Finley and Bailey O’Connor. Michael is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and cousins-in-law, to whom he was extremely close.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 3rd at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4th at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow the Mass at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY.
