Recently the Marlboro School District received $270,060 that will fund 42, full-time Pre-K students for the 2021-22 school year.
To be eligible a child must be 4 years old on or before December 1, 2021, reside within the Marlboro Central School District, and a parent must complete and submit an application and all documents by Friday, July 2, 2021 in order to be considered for the 2021-22 school year. More information is available on the school district’s website atmarlboschools.org.

The requirements of the Commissioner of Education call for 5.5 hours of instruction per day, 5 days a week for the full school year of 180 days.

The maximum class size is capped at 20 students and there will be 1 teacher and 2 para-professionals. Classes with 18 or less will have 1 teacher and 1 para-professional. District kindergarten and pre-k teachers have compiled a curriculum based on Early Learning and New York State Standards.

If more than 42 students apply, a lottery system will be used to select students.

Robin Hecht, Assistant Director for Curriculum and Instruction, said four local licensed daycare providers were selected for this inaugural program: Little Friends Preschool, Pattycake Playhouse, Stepping Stones and Stepping Stones II. Placement at one of these providers is made according to 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices that parents listed on the application form.

Each of the providers submitted a proposal to the district that Hecht followed up with visits. The Board of Education has received the proposals for approval and the providers will be notified of their status and the allotted number of seats. Each provider will be required to sign a contract with the district that will run from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.

Pre-K screening will be done over the summer at the elementary school and the district will continue reviewing the curriculum for the program.
