Marlboro Library walking club returns

Connect with the outdoors and your neighbors as we try out a new walking trail every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month starting June 1 thru August 17. Check the Marlboro Library online calendar for meeting locations and weather-related updates.

Registration required. Please register online for each walk you plan to attend at marlborolibrary.org.

On Thursday, June 2 at 7 p.m., local author and Town of Gardiner Historian, A.J. Schenkman will be at the Marlboro Library to discuss his new book, Unexpected Bravery: Women and Children of the Civil War. Hear the stories of the women and children who attempted to make a difference in the epic struggle to determine the future of the United States of America during the Civil War.

Open the first and third Saturday of the month from now until October, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (weather permitting), the Friends of the Marlboro Free Library’s Book Barn sells good-quality, used books to help benefit the library. To visit the Book Barn during its open hours, park in the library back parking lot and follow the path down to the red shed. During open hours, the Book Barn will accept book donations that are in good, clean condition. Follow The Friends of the Marlboro Free Library on Facebook for any weather-related closings, or future Friends events!


On Tuesday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m., join us at the Marlboro Library to make a frame-worthy print using leaves you can find in your own backyard! This craft is in-person only.

The Marlboro Library’s popular Local History Trivia Night continues!

From the comfort of your own home, test your knowledge of Marlborough in this relaxed environment. Our trivia night is less about knowing the answers and more about connecting with friends, old and new, and learning something unexpected about the town’s history!

Registration required. Register to participate or just to listen in at marlborolibrary.org.

Online registration for children’s summer reading programs begins on Wednesday, June 8 at 10 a.m. Browse the program lineup on the library’s event calendar at marlborolibrary.org and register to reserve your spot starting June 8. Children and teens can also get started on summer reading challenges, which begin on June 13, and end on August 24. Visit the Library or visit marlborolibrary.org for details on the summer reading challenges.

The Milton Engine Company will host its 15th annual Cocktail Party on Sunday, June 5, 5-8 p.m. at the Majestic Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa, 220 North Road, Milton.

Featuring: Live entertainment under the tent, silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, beer & wine.

Tickets are $35per person, part of proceeds to benefit Milton Library, Call or Text: Ed Bozydaj 845-706-1394.

Let’s hear it for our Marlboro High School Varsity Softball senior players, who were honored during a game against Highland on May 9. They are Emmie Mae Cabrera, Isabella Gulcaglayan, Kasey Conn, Ava DelSalto, and Carly Correa. To top off the excitement, the team won the game, 12-0.

Weekly Recipe
Eggs Diablo

M A K E S 4 S E R V I N G S
I N G R E D I E N T S:
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
1 Tbsp minced garlic
1 14.5-oz can no-salt-added fire-roasted diced tomatoes, undrained
1 8-oz can no-salt-added tomato sauce
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
8 eggs
2 Tbsp sliced green onions (scallions)
8 corn tortillas, warmed
Salt and black pepper to taste

INSTRUCTIONS:

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, pepper, and garlic. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally until vegetables are tender. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 5 minutes, or until sauce is bubbling around edges.

Form a small indentation in the sauce. Break an egg into a cup and slip into sauce; repeat with remaining eggs. Cover pan and cook 3 to 5 minutes, or until egg whites are completely set and yolks start to thicken.
Sprinkle eggs with green onions. Serve with corn tortillas. Season with salt and pepper.
