Marlboro girls win Minisink tournament

Leah Gunsett struck out 16, had two hits and drove in three runs in the Marlboro softball team’s 8-2 win over Our Lady of Lourdes on Saturday.

Kalista Birkenstock added four hits, three runs scored and six stolen bases. Lily Sullivan had a hit and an RBI, Taylor Castellani doubled and drove in a run and Kaitlyn Gordon added a double.

The Dukes opened the week with a 13-1 win over New Paltz on Wednesday.

Ella Leduc celebrated Senior Day with two hits, including a double, two runs scored and drove in two runs. Castellani had three hits, including a double and a home run, scored two runs and drove in three. Emma Jackson had three hits and three RBIs. Lilly Sullivan had two runs and two runs scored and two RBIs. Birkenstock had a hit, three runs scored and two stolen bases, and Madison Gibney had a hit and two RBIs.

The Dukes finished the week by completing the Minisink Valley tournament on Sunday. They were leading Middletown 11-1 in the fourth inning when last month’s game was suspended. The final score was 13-1. Leah Gunsett went 3 for 3 with two runs scored, and also struck out seven batters in five innings pitched. Emma Jackson also had three hits, with two runs scored and one run batted in. Kalista Birkenstock went 2 for 3, with a double, triple, walk, and one run scored.

The Dukes finished the day by beating Rondout 3-0 in the championship game of the Minisink Tournament. Gunsett went seven innings in that game, allowing just two hits and no earned runs. Leduc drove in all three runs, with a two-run homer and a sacrifice bunt that led to another run. Birkenstock was one for four with two stolen bases and one run scored.
