Marlboro FCCLA logs into the Hybrid National Conference

Three Marlboro FCCLA members and their adviser participated in the Hybrid National Family Career and Community Leaders of America Conference in Nashville TN. This year, due to the pandemic, National FCCLA decided to go hybrid. In-person attendance was limited to 1500 and the remaining attendees participated on the virtual platform. The conference began on June 27 and concluded on July 2. The student-led hybrid conference allowed members across The United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands to learn important skills for life, compete in community service-based events, and chat virtually with other FCCLA members and guest speakers from across the country. Over 5000 students were in attendance.

Marlboro High School members and NYS officers, Seamus Daly and Reese Shuta, attended in-person along with their adviser, AnnMarie Giacoia. Jackie Rivera attended virtually representing Marlboro Middle School.
Not even a global pandemic can stop Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members from making a difference in their families, careers, and communities.

Although this school year looked a bit different, FCCLA members’ perseverance, tenacity, and resilience shined through as students nationwide participated in Student Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Event projects. The top STAR Event competitors from each state advanced to compete virtually at the National Conference.

MMS member Jackie Rivera received a Silver Medal in Chapter Service Project and had the 3rd highest score in the country for her grade level.

Seamus Daly and Reese Shuta continued their journey as 2021-2022 NYS Officers. Seamus is Vice President of Community Service and National Programs and Reese is Vice President of Public Relations and Communications. Throughout the week, they attended State Officer trainings as well as Career Pathway Workshops. Conference highlights included an inclusion, access, equity, and diversity panel led by former Survivor: One World contestant, Sabrina Thompson Mitchell, and accompanied by seven high-level business and industry leader panelists, as well as a Say Yes to Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) signing ceremony celebrating future FCS educators who have committed to pursuing a career in FCS education.

National FCCLA has partnered with WeHelpTwo for NLC to make a positive change by selling funky socks. Socks sold will help provide children born around the world with club feet corrective braces as a part of the Socks for Clubfoot program. In-person conference attendees had the opportunity to decorate donated leg braces.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools through grade 12. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with the family as its central focus. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

The Marlboro students and their advisors had a different, yet amazing time attending the hybrid conference and are looking forward to bringing an innovative perspective to their chapters this fall!
