Marlboro’s doubles team Adrien Gueren and Collin Benninger knocked off the tournament’s top seed on their way to a third-place finish at the Mid Hudson Athletic League boys’ tennis tournament on Wednesday at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park.

The tournament’s second day didn’t start off for the duo as well as the previous day went for them, however, as they lost their semifinal match to Our Lady of Lourdes’ Ned Van Loan and Aneesh Bahierathan, 6-1, 6-2.

However, they rebounded to finish third, and will compete at this week’s Section 9 championships at Match Point Tennis Center in Goshen.

Gueren and Benninger reached the semifinals with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over the tournament’s top-seeded team of Rehan Shah and Omar Anwar of Spackenkill.

They advanced by opening the tournament with a 6-1, 7-6, 6-4 win over Rondout Valley’s Finn Kenney and August Rubin.

Highland’s Andrew Lamark and Logan Carle were eliminated immediately by a 10-6 loss to Kenney and Rubin.

Marlboro’s team of Deni Menendez and Joe Crane lost to Wallkill’s Matt Swider and Trevor Strano.

Marlboro’s Troy Guillet was eliminated in the second round by the tournament’s top-seed, Vir Mitra, 6-1, 6-0, and Highland’s Liam Van Valkenburgh was eliminated by Ellenville’s Alen Irbric, 6-2, 6-1, in their first match of the tournament.
