Marlboro boys win at Middie Invitational

The Marlboro boys’ track and field team finished first at the Middletown Invitational on Saturday with 108.5 points.

The girls’ team finished sixth with 49 points and Highland was 10th with 13 points.
Domenic Valentino had the best finish for the Iron Dukes, winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:25.04, while Jose Iraola-Ceely won the hammer throw with a distance of 128-9. The Iron Dukes went first and second in the event with Doug Benfer reaching 103-0.

Iraola-Ceely also was second in the javelin throw reaching 100-3 and Trace Napoli was fifth in 93-10.

Drew Heimink and Colin Robertson went first and second in the pole vault with heights of 13-0 and 11-0 respectively. Heimink set a new personal record. Sean Robertson was sixth with a reach of 9.0 feet. Robertson also was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.37.

Trace Napoli won the shot put with a reach of 42-6 with Benfer and Iraola-Ceely right behind him with third- and fifth-place finishes and respective distances of 3-11 and 38-2. Napoli was second in the discus throw, reaching 131-05 and Benfer was fifth, reaching 116-04.

Dylan Gunsett was third in the long jump reaching 19-7 and was sixth in the 400-meter dash in 53.03.

Chinedu Okasi was fifth in the triple jump reaching 40-10.

The Iron Dukes’ 400-meter relay team of Robertson, Lofaro, Matt Drake and Okasi were second in 44.33, a new personal record.

Highland’s Matthew Petty won the long jump, reaching 20-5. He also was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 40-1.

In the girls’ meet, Julia Juras was a double winner with the best throws in the discus and javelin. She threw the discus 105 feet and threw the javelin 74-8. She was second in the shot put with a throw of 30-4. Victoria Maher was third in the discus, reaching 90-5.

The 400-meter relay team of Elizabeth Elizondo, Alivia Menser, Fallon Grace and Khalia Moore were third.

Elizabeth Elizondo was third in the 200-meter dash and sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.74.

Emma Elizondo was seventh in the 1,500-meter run in 5:48.78. Taylor Trapani was fifth in the triple jump, reaching 28-1.

Highland’s Maggie Petty was second in the 100-meter dash in 13.32 and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.01. She was fourth in the long jump reaching 14-10

Natalie Worrad was sixth in the high jump, reaching 4-2.

The girls’ 400-meter relay team of Julianna Hernandez, Mia Clarke, Maria Faircloth and Maggie Petty was sixth in 58.88.

The Iron Dukes finished their dual meet season undefeated 7-0 with wins over the Mount Academy and Onteora on May 10. The girls’ team lost to Onteora.

The Iron Dukes also hosted the Iron Duke Throw Off Series on Thursday. Napoli was first in the shot put and discus, and fourth in he javelin. Benfer was second in shot put, third in discus and the hammer throw.

Iraola-Ceely was second in the hammer and fifth in the javelin and the shot put.
