Lawrence “Larry” Daniel Diorio

Lawrence “Larry” Daniel Diorio, 85, entered into rest peacefully on October 21, 2024.  

Larry was a lifelong resident of Milton, N.Y, who relocated to The Fountains of Millbrook in his later years. He was born January 31,1939, the son of Daniel Lawrence Diorio and Catherine (Rush) Maguire. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.         

He was a graduate of Marlboro High School, Class of 1959.  Larry proudly served as a U.S. Navy Seaman aboard the USS Moale DD693. He was also a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve for many years. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors and Bethlehem Rod and Gun Club. 

During his life, Larry worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie, was a part-time police officer for the Town of Marlborough Police Department, and a lifetime member of the Milton Fire Company.  His pride and joy was being an active Boy Scout Master with his son. He enjoyed taking his troop on many adventures, being involved in community service and sharing stories while visiting the veterans at the Veterans Hospital at Castlepoint. Larry was very proud of his Italian heritage. 

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Abbruscato Diorio, who resides in South Carolina along with her children, Rhonda Wowaka and her husband Stephen also of South Carolina, and her son Frank Abbruscato and his partner, Jack, of Louisiana. 

He is also survived by his children, Dawn Diorio Schreiber and husband Donald of Milton, N.Y and Donato Lawrence Diorio and wife Christie of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. He was a loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Larry also leaves behind an uncle and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Larry was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Danya Diorio Hildebrandt, and Charles Diorio.
A heartfelt thank you to Gina Bambinelli of Hudson Valley Hospice for her endless hours of dedication, friendship, and guidance to our family. We are grateful to AnnMarie Eades for her loving caring for Larry. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at The Hudson Valley Hospice House in Hyde Park for their compassion and loving family support in his final days. 

Calling hours will be on Friday, October 25, 2024 from 10 -11 a.m. at the DiDonato Funeral Home in Marlboro, N.Y.  Larry will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marlboro with a private family service.
