After 38 years, our loving father, grandfather and great grandfather has been reunited with the love of his life. John H. Manning passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Middletown Park Manor. The son of the late Martin and Harriet Baxter Manning, he was born on January 30, 1922 in Newburgh. He was 101 years old.
A proud World War II Army Veteran, he worked as a foreman and machine operator at the Schrade Knife Co. in Walden and Ellenville. He is survived by his daughters, Joanne Stevens of Walden and Diane Goerl and her husband, Dan, of Appleton, Wisconsin; his son, Michael Manning, and his wife, Kathy, of Caroga Lake, NY; four grandchildren: Jeremy Manning, Eric Manning, Brian Stevens, and Stephanie Smith; great-grandchildren: Beckett, Declan, Kinsley, Wynne, and Oskar; and nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Shirley Manning, and his two brothers and sister.
A funeral service was held on Friday, October 13, at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard Street, Walden. A burial was at the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Church of the Most Precious Blood, Walden.
